I-10 Traffic Interchange at Twin Peaks
I-10 Traffic Interchange at Twin Peaks

Project Overview

The Arizona Department of Transportation has made significant strides towards completion of the much anticipated Interstate 10 - Twin Peaks Interchange. By this time next year, traffic will be flowing on the Twin Peaks Interchange.

There are fewer than 300 days before the roadway opens to give motorists and cyclists more travel options in Marana. During the month of November, the final bridge girders for the Santa Cruz River Bridge were delivered and crews are now putting the final touches on the bridge decking.

Earlier this fall, crews began work on the I-10 Twin Peaks Bridge. The first round of bridge girders were delivered in late November; they now span the eastbound lanes of  I-10.

In January 2010, crews will switch traffic on I-10 and begin work on the bridge spanning the westbound lanes of I-10. As you may have noticed, there is also significant work being done on the abutment that will support the bridge and carry traffic over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

As part of the Twin Peaks Project, the Town of Marana is working to improve drainage structures, roadway elevations and manhole issues prior to the new paving and overlay of rubberized asphalt that will be placed along Twin Peaks Road and Silverbell Road. Those improvements will be complete early next year with paving and overlay starting in February.

The Arizona Department of Transportation, Pulice Construction and the Town will hold a project open house in February to update residents. Details will be available in January.

This Project will:

  • Greatly reduce travel time in northwestern Pima County and increase safety by taking some traffic off busy streets, most notably Cortaro Road.
  • Connect to Marana’s upcoming widening and roadway improvements of Camino de Mañana, realigning the roadway north to the intersection of Tangerine Road and Dove Mountain Boulevard.
  • Unite the growing Dove Mountain community with Continental Ranch and provide easier access to I-10.
