Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where will traffic signals be located on Twin Peaks Road? What will the speed limit be?

A: Preliminary analyses indicate that traffic signals may be located at each of two cross-road intersections with freeway ramps and at the intersections of Twin Peaks Road and Coachline Road, Linda Vista Boulevard and Camino de Manana, and Twin Peaks Road and the proposed Access Road. All traffic signal installations are subject to the findings of a Traffic Signal Warrant Study. - Dave Perkins, Kimley-Horn

Q: What property will be acquired?

A: This project will require the acquisition of property from approximately 35 parcels with the majority being partial acquisitions. Please refer to the preliminary Project Map. Contact Pete Saldivar with the Town of Marana at 382-2667, if you have any questions or require any additional information regarding the acquisition process. - Pete Saldivar, Town of Marana

Q: Will there be bike lanes and/or pedestrian paths?

A: Multi-use paths will accommodate bikes and pedestrians along Twin Peaks Road and Camino de Manana. - Scott Stapp, HDR

Q: Will there be neighborhood access onto Twin Peaks Road - in and out of subdivisions?

A: The neighborhood access onto and off of Twin Peaks will be maintained during the project construction. The work to be performed on exsisting Twin Peaks Road will require only minor traffic shifts. - Eric Sibson, URS

Q: Why is this taking so long? Is there any way to expedite the project so it is completed sooner?

A: This project is being funded partially with money from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). There are specific requirements for preparation of environmental documents and engineering plans. This project required that an Environmental Assessment be prepared and approved by FHWA. This task took approximately two years and was completed in March of 2006. Final Design could not start until this document was approved. Since the project requires acquisition of property and relocation of several businesses, this process is time consuming as well. The final complicating factor is completing an agreement with the Union Pacific Railroad for construction and maintenance of the new bridge over their facilities. This agreement is being expedited as much as possible, however this is also a time consuming process that must be completed in order to construct the project. The Town of Marana and the project team are working diligently to accelerate the project wherever possible to save time. - Bill Dehn, URS

Q: Will the interchange go over or under the Union Pacific Railroad?

A: Twin Peaks Road will be constructed over I-10 and over the railroad tracks. Signalized intersections will be constructed on Twin Peaks Road to provide access to and from the freeway and the frontage roads. - Dave Perkins, Kimley-Horn

Q: Will Twin Peaks Road be widened?

A: Twin Peaks Road between Silverbell Road and I-10 will be a 4-lane roadway with raised medians, bike lanes, and sidewalks, similar to the Twin Peaks Road, west of the Santa Cruz River. Twin Peaks Road between Linda Vista Road and I-10 will be a 6-lane divided roadway with raised medians, bike lanes, and sidewalks. - Dave Perkins, Kimley-Horn

Q: Will the median on Twin Peaks from Silverbell to the river remain?

A: The median on Twin Peaks Road between Silverbell Road and the Santa Cruz River will remain. - Dave Perkins, Kimley-Horn

Q: Can speed bumps be on side streets if traffic increases a lot?

A: Following construction and project opening, the Town of Marana will monitor traffic volumes on local streets in the vicinity of Twin Peaks Road and work with neighborhood associations and individuals to identify and resolve problems. Speed hump installations will be considered in addressing cut-though and excessive speeds on local streets. The Town of Marana does not allow speed humps on streets designated as arterials and collectors. - Dave Perkins, Kimley-Horn

Q: What about pedestrian access on Twin Peaks Road and at the school crossing?

A: During the project design, the Town of Marana and the design team have coordinated with the Principal of Twin Peaks Elementary and the Marana Unified School District. As part of Marana's Safe Routes to School Program, improvements will be constructed to improve traffic and pedestrian flow to and from the school. Following project completion, the Town of Marana will monitor traffic volumes and pedestrian flow to and from the school. Together both parties will then identify and resolve any issues. - Dave Perkins, Kimley-Horn
