Public Meetings
Open House #2 - March 22, 2004
Comment forms were provided asking the participants to record any comments or ask any questions.
Most participants indicated that they liked the "center" alternative the best, the "south" alternative as a second choice and they did not like the "north" alternative. Most said that the roadway should be as straight as possible; therefore they preferred the "center" or "south" alternative. Other questions/issues raised were location of traffic signals, future land-use of the interchange area, noise walls, and neighborhood access. Most favored that the interchange be built as soon as possible due to the congestion at the other nearby interchanges.
Approximately 700 notices were mailed to local property owners, affected neighbors and other interested parties. Newspaper advertisements were placed in the Sunday edition of the Arizona Daily Star and the weekly Northwest Explorer newspapers prior to the Open House.
Prior to the open house the project team met with owners of 16 properties located just east and west of the interstate close to the proposed interchange location. Most of the property owners indicated that they liked either the "center" or the "south" alternative, and did not like the "north" alternative. Questions and issues raised during the property owner meetings included business access, visibility, schedule, utility locations, and future land use.
Future activities include hold a public hearing and one additional Open House, developing and distributing project updates in the form of newsletters or flyers, giving presentations to homeowner and business groups, developing a project information website, and continual one-on-one contacts with those most affected by the project.
